In 1836, Samuel White and family came from Canada and braved the Michigan wilderness becoming the first settlers in the Walker area. On December 20, 1837, the Township of Walker was established. Walker was established as a city in 1962 and is located in Kent County. It offers prime agricultural farmlands and orchards, rolling hills and woodlands, manufacturing and a major retail corridor on Alpine. The Grand River flows through part of Walker. Lush country areas and well-kept subdivisions make it a wonderful place to live. School districts: Comstock Park Public Schools, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Grandville Public Schools, and Kenowa Hills Public Schools.
